Scarsdale Village Got Its Dinner Spot Back Before Its Grocery Store

Since mid-September, a few hundred feet of Scarsdale Village around East Parkway, Spencer Place and Christie Place has gained a new Italian restaurant and a bigger wine shop. Two more tenants have Village approval. Most of the evening and weekend errands now have a fresh option within one block, while the weekday morning ones, a coffee before the 6 a.m. hour ends and a carton of milk on the walk home, are the pieces still unopened. Here is where each storefront stands as of October 11, 2026, and how the rest of the fall calendar runs around them.

Dinner and wine came first

Capretta opened at 57 Spencer Place, the former home of Akai Japanese restaurant. Dinner service began September 15, and lunch started on September 22, the day Mayor Justin Arest, Deputy Mayor Dara Gruenberg and Trustee Tim Foley cut the ribbon, according to the Bronxville Beacon.

The restaurant comes from Z Hospitality Group, and it is the group's eighth. The company began in 1991 with Terra in Greenwich and also runs Aurora in Rye, plus Mediterraneo, Eastend, Solé and Blackbird in Fairfield County. Anyone who has eaten at Aurora already has a sense of the group's approach. At Capretta that means handmade pastas, wood-fired meatballs with whipped ricotta, butterflied branzino and Parmesan-crusted West Coast halibut, plus both Detroit-style and regular pizza.

For planning purposes:

  • Dinner: 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, until 9:30 p.m. Sunday
  • Lunch: served since September 22
  • Phone: 914-202-6900
  • The room: described as airy and bright, with doors that open onto the street

Scarsdale10583 called it "an instant hit" in its September 30 roundup.

A few doors away, Scarsdale Wine Merchants now has a larger storefront at 30 East Parkway after leaving 2 Depot Place. The new shop sits near the old home of Zachys, the longtime Scarsdale wine store that moved to Port Chester during the pandemic. Owner Kristie Petrullo Campbell, a sommelier, plans weekend tastings at the new location. The shop is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

That puts a dinner reservation and a bottle within a short walk of each other on East Parkway again. Neither one covers what a household needs on a Tuesday at 7 a.m.

The former Bank of America space now has its approvals

The corner of East Parkway and Christie Place is where the morning half of the picture is supposed to arrive. At its July 14 meeting, the Village Board took up an application from Caffè Nero for the space Bank of America once occupied, Scarsdale10583 reported. The applicant described a café modeled on European coffeehouses, serving food along with drinks. It would be open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week, and app ordering would let regulars skip the line. Because the season was already late, outdoor tables on East Parkway and Christie Place would wait for an application next year.

The hearing also showed how close this corner sits to its neighbors. Christie Place is an age-restricted residence, and a speaker for its residents welcomed having the storefront filled after two years. He also raised concerns about noise and about tables narrowing a sidewalk that many residents use with walking aids. The applicant said there would be no outdoor speakers and that the café would not crowd the walkway. The trustees granted the special-use permit on July 28.

Then, at its September 22 meeting, the board approved Core Burn Pilates for a 1,539-square-foot studio at 100 Christie Place, which local reporting also identifies as the former Bank of America space. Coverage has described both businesses as headed for that former bank, and the published reports do not make clear how the space divides between them. Neither has announced an opening date. The September 30 roundup still listed both as "coming soon."

58 East Parkway is still the gap

The bigger missing piece is groceries. Scarsdale Village has had no grocery store since DeCicco Family Markets closed its 31-year-old location at 58 East Parkway in November 2024, the Bronxville Beacon noted in August. A separate branch of the family, DeCicco & Sons, is building Piccolino Market at the same address. It is a smaller-format concept store whose name means "little one" in Italian.

The planned shelves include gourmet groceries, Italian baked goods, fresh produce, prepared foods, a wide beer selection, and meats raised without antibiotics or added hormones. DeCicco & Sons runs more than 11 Westchester stores, including Ardsley, Eastchester, Larchmont and Pelham, and Piccolino is the first to carry a different name. The build uses Pozzotive, a concrete made with recycled glass, along with reclaimed brick and wood, and a system that turns refrigeration heat into hot water and store heating.

On the timeline, the most recent detailed report describes exterior windows installed and interior work underway as of August 12. No firm opening date had been announced, though the store was originally expected this past summer. We found no newer public update on the opening, so the paper stays on the windows until DeCicco & Sons says otherwise.

In the meantime, the closest new full grocery is just over the line. Sprouts Farmers Market opened September 4 at 393 N. Central Park Ave. in Hartsdale, in the former BEST Market space, and Scarsdale10583 gave it a second look in mid-September. Getting there means a drive down Central Avenue, though, not a walk from the train.

Another everyday food business is also winding down outside the Village center. Standing Room Only, the catering shop in the Colonial Village Shopping Center, announced it will close after 37 years. The August 31 announcement did not give a final day or name a successor.

Where the fall calendar meets the corner

Sundays are the one day this corner of the Village gets busy, whatever is behind the paper. The Destination Scarsdale series runs Sundays through November 23, with the Farmers Market on Chase Road outside the Post Office from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A Sunday market run that ends with lunch at Capretta or a stop at the wine shop now stays within a couple of blocks.

The remaining dates:

  1. Halloween Window Painting Contest and Family Halloween Window Painting: Sunday, October 18, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Village newsletter lists October 19 and 20 as rain dates, and a Village staff update to the board put judging on Monday, October 19.
  2. Scarsdale Halloween Parade: sources disagree on the date. At the September 22 board meeting, the deputy village manager said Sunday, October 25, according to Scarsdale10583's meeting report. The Scarsdale10583 calendar lists Friday, October 30, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Check with the Village before planning costumes around either date.
  3. Public Safety Day: November 1, on the Destination Scarsdale calendar.

Rock the 'Dale has had a hard season. The free concert was postponed by weather from September 20, and its October 11 makeup was also canceled for inclement weather. The canceled plan included The Sawtelles, Hot Lunch, The Modtones, Louise in Trouble and The Del Bocas, along with lunch specials from Village restaurants. For any Sunday event in the Village Center, free Sunday parking is available in the Christie Place Garage, a few steps from the corner where Caffè Nero and Core Burn are headed.

The next real update on this block will be an opening date from DeCicco & Sons for 58 East Parkway, or from Caffè Nero for the old bank at Christie Place.

I've lived in Scarsdale for more than 22 years, and I keep an eye on East Parkway the same way my neighbors do. If you want to compare notes on these openings, or on what's happening with a storefront near your own street, Cindy Schwall is glad to talk it through. Let's Connect.
